Blinding Lights by The Weeknd becomes the most streamed song in Spotify history

2023-01-06T17:23:58.878Z

With more than 3.339 billion plays, this title exceeds the song Shape of You, by Ed Sheeran, which we thought was unbeatable since its release in 2017.

New record for The Weeknd, the king of pop.

His song

Blinding Lights

, which appears on

After Hours

, his fourth album, has become the most streamed track on Spotify with over 3.339 billion streams.

It thus overtakes Ed Sheeran and his hit

Shape of You

, which peaked at the top of the rankings since 2017, with 3.335 billion plays.

Blinding Lights

and

Shape of You

are the only two hits to have exceeded three billion plays on the platform.

Originally composed, in 2019, for a Mercedes advertisement, the retro title of The Weeknd, produced by Max Martin and Oscar Holter, has resonated all over the world.

The song's official music video, posted to the singer's YouTube channel in January 2020, has been viewed over 660 million times.

In this four-minute video, the singer, retro glasses on his nose, seems straight out of another dimension.

On January 1, on his Twitter account, the 32-year-old artist posted some photos from the clip.

In description, he simply writes:

“Happy New Year to

Blinding Lights

, the most streamed song of all time tonight.”

If 2022 has crowned the Canadian singer with success, the year 2023 promises to be just as triumphant.

His album

Starboy

, released in 2016, has just been certified triple platinum with more than 300,000 copies sold.

And, a year after the release of

Dawn FM

, his fifth studio album, The Weeknd is preparing to begin an international tour which will take him to France several times, in Nice on July 22, in Paris on July 29 and 30 and finally, on August 1 in Bordeaux.
