Feeling a little sick? Do what these doctors do - voila! health

2023-01-06T00:23:31.442Z

Everyone around us is sick, and in a moment it will reach us too, so we decided to check what doctors do when they start to feel signs of a cold. The answers, you will be surprised, do not include drugs

Everything you need to know about winter diseases (Walla! NEWS system)

Olive oil, lemon, garlic, chicken soup, and above all a lot of rest - no, these are not the solutions for your grandmother's cold, but what experienced doctors do when the winter illnesses come to them.

On the occasion of the runny nose and cough season, we asked 5 doctors what they do when they have a cold, because there's nothing like first-hand tips from a doctor.

Here are their answers:

Dr. Bassem Altori, a physician in the first internal department at the Kaplan Medical Center of the Klalit Group

First of all, my body needs maximum rest to recover.

First of all, I make sure to get vaccinated every year, and I believe that this is the most important thing to prevent illness.

But if I still got sick, the first thing I understand is that, above all, my body needs maximum rest to recover.

If it is a winter illness, and the symptoms I feel are a runny nose, nasal congestion, etc., I like and recommend even using "grandmother's remedies", which relieve the symptoms, for example: ginger with honey, tea with lemon or honey.

If it's a headache, I don't rush to take medicine, and like to try hot water with mint first.

Only if the pain gets worse then you can "pamper" the body with two paracetamol per day, at most.

Another option I use when I feel sick is to take a small plate with olive oil, pieces of lemon, garlic, spicy and eat it, even with bread or pita next to it.

These are healthy ingredients that help relieve my symptoms.

Dr. Yossi Danieli, Maccabi Health Services, Jerusalem and the Lowlands District

A cold is not the end of the world, it will pass as it came.

Cold is a word that is associated with many viral diseases, and in fact there is no specific drug treatment for the phenomenon, but only symptomatic treatment.

When I feel like I'm starting to have a cold and my nose starts to run, I use saline-based solutions against nasal congestion.

If the cold is also accompanied by a fever above 38 degrees, I use antipyretics such as Nurofen, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, etc.

In most cases I just drink a lot of hot drinks and eat foods rich in vitamins to strengthen the body.

Also chicken soup, which is the antibiotic of the Jews, always comes into consideration.

But, as everyone knows, a cold is not the end of the world and if we take care of ourselves and wear warm clothing, it will pass as it came"

Dr. Chen Segal Sigavi, director of Klalit's Blumenthal clinic in Bnei Brak and an expert in family medicine

First thing - a sick day.

Dr. Segal Sigavi (Photo: Dan-Pat District Spokesperson, Klalit)

When a cold comes, the first thing I realize is that my body is trying to send me a message, and I immediately take a sick day, settle on chicken soup (which my husband or my mother makes for me, and when I have no choice I order takeaway), cancel the plans for the rest of the day and go to bed.

Resting the body allows blood to flow to the places that are dealing with the virus, instead of to the muscles or other systems in the body.

At this time, the body tries to eliminate virus particles by excreting multiple fluids, which are the runny nose, so I make sure to drink a lot.

I also understand that more than any medicine, spray or syrup, my body knows how to heal itself wonderfully, and I am confident in these abilities.

That is why I try to listen for a moment to what is happening in life, to understand what is going through me during this period that may have made it easier for the virus to break out in me, and I treat my body and mind with a lot of self-compassion.

Medicines for symptomatic treatment are not so effective.

Usually when I have flu symptoms I prefer to let my body heal on its own.

Max uses nose drops so I can breathe.

There are many studies that show that the drugs for symptomatic treatment are not that effective.

It turns out that the grandmother's remedies - good soup and rest - are the ideal solution.

If the soup doesn't help, it is at least comforting.

Dr. Shay Ehrlich, senior physician in the day hospitalization department and director of the FTT clinic at the Schneider Center

It will pass - either another week or another 7 days.

Runny nose colds and coughs do not miss anyone and not even doctors.

During the winter I also run down and cough like most of the children and parents who flood the clinic, and it is impossible to escape the winter viruses.

Most of the time I prefer to concentrate on grandma's remedies, and for me tea and hot soup always help with the bad feeling and nasal congestion.

I very rarely use anti-cold and decongestants.

In most cases, as I tell patients - it will pass either way or another week or another 7 days.
