After two years, the dog Arlo meets his mother again and also gets to know his new sibling.

The video melts hearts.

Golden Retriever Arlo has been living with his owner Karina in Texas for two years.

She picked him up as a puppy from a breeder in Alabama.

Now the path leads back there for both of them.

Because Karina also wants to give one of Arlo's younger siblings a home.

The future roommate in the house of the two is called Libby.

To make it easier for Arlo to accept the little bitch, Karina decides to take him to the breeder's.

There he meets his siblings and, years later, meets his mother again.

Karina captured the touching reunion and published it on the TikTok channel

The reunion of a kitten and a dog is also heartwarming.

In the clip, Arlo can be seen sniffing his mother excitedly at first.

Then he curiously sniffs his little sister.

The video goes back and forth like this, and the two-year-old golden retriever seems increasingly excited.

The meeting of the four-legged friends has already been viewed more than 600,000 times and received over 60,000 likes.

Two dogs secretly kissing on the fence also inspire the TikTok community.

Golden Retriever sees mom again after years: "Yes, dog moms remember"

Karina writes about the clip: "Do you think dogs remember the smell of their mother and their littermates?" The users comment and share their experiences: "Yes, dog mothers still remember their babies.

When we brought the mother of my puppies to our house, she started cleaning them." Another writes: "I'm sure that the mum recognizes her puppies.

She just looks like she woke up from a good night's sleep and needs a few minutes to recover.

Mommies need sleep.” A pit bull wants to sleep too, but a cat occupies its dog basket.

Golden Retriever sees mother again after years: "Smell memory" can help

But can dogs really recognize each other even after years?

Yes, it is possible, through their "olfactory memory".

However, a few factors are crucial for this.

On the one hand, the longer the family was together, the better they memorize the smell of their mother and siblings.

On the other hand, the time when the four-legged friends meet again is crucial.

Dog trainer Joe Nutkins, along with canine pro Canine Cottages, found that canine siblings who spend the first 16 weeks of their lives together are more likely to recognize each other years later.

However, if the animals only see each other again after six or seven years, the memory becomes more difficult.

The same goes for the mother: if puppies stay with their mother for the first twelve to 16 weeks of their lives,

While Karina isn't sure if Arlo's mother recognized her adult son, she believes "that the fact that he could compare his mother's smell to Libby's helped him accept Libby much more quickly." she tells the news portal

Newsweek.
