 Exhibitions, culture, festivals, celebrations, anniversaries, sports: Perugino's 500th anniversary awaits us in 2023, the events of the Capital of Culture, film festivals, the Architecture Biennale, the Giro d'Italia and many other events which, month by month, they invite you to travel.


    The 2023 Capital of Culture will be inaugurated on 20 January with over 100 appointments: Bergamo and Brescia (bergamobrescia2023.it) open up to a year of music, theatre, opera, photography, parties and visits.

A few days earlier, on January 11, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan (teatroallascala.org) pays homage to the 30th anniversary of Rudolf Nureyev's death with Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" and with the choreography of the unforgettable dancer.


    From February 4, Carnival is celebrated throughout Italy: among the events not to be missed, the Carnival of Venice and that of Viareggio, among the most popular.

From 18 February to 19 June Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara (palazzodiamanti.it) hosts the major exhibition "Renaissance in Ferrara. Ercole de' Roberti and Lorenzo Costa", an exhibition dedicated to two great Ferrara Renaissance masters.


    The celebrations for the 500th anniversary of Perugino, the great Renaissance painter, begin from 4 March at the National Gallery of Umbria (gallerianazionaledellumbria.it) in Perugia, with the exhibition "The best master of Italy", scheduled until 11 June.

Great contemporary art, instead, at Palazzo Strozzi (palazzostrozzi.org) in Florence with the exhibition "Reaching for the Stars. From Maurizio Cattelan to Lynette Yiadom-Boakye", from 4 March to 18 June.

The exhibition offers a selection of works by the most important international contemporary artists.


    Easter is celebrated on April 9 with all the religious celebrations and processions of the brotherhoods.

From 17 to 23 April the Fiera di Milano Rho hosts the Salone del Mobile (salonemilano.it) while the city is full of appointments related to design, art and fashion with the Fuorisalone (fuorisalone.it).

The Rolli Days (visitgenoa.it) start on April 29 to celebrate the noble palaces of Genoa.


    The Giro d'Italia (giroditalia.it), the most important cycling race in stages, begins on 6 May: it starts from the Costa dei Trabocchi and arrives in Rome on 28 May.

On 20 May the Architecture Biennale (labiennale.org) takes place in Venice, curated by the Scottish-Ghanaian Lesley Lokko;

The title of the 18th International Exhibition is "The Laboratory of the Future".

On May 21, the historic residences open (dimorestoricheitaliane.it) are back, a journey through the largest - and most beautiful - museum in Italy.

You can enter 56 historic buildings and 29 parks with guided tours.


    For the 100th anniversary of the Arena di Verona (arena.it) on 16 June it will be possible to attend Verdi's Aida in a new production.

On the 23rd the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi (festivaldispoleto.com) starts with a rich program of art, music, dance and theatre.

From 24 June to 2 July, the new Waterfront of Genoa hosts for the first time the arrival of the most extraordinary and toughest regatta around the world, The Ocean Race (theoceanrace.com), which this year turns half a century old.

Milan hosts the World Fencing Championships (federscherma.it), scheduled from 22 to 30 July at the Fair.

On 27 July in Trento the innovative Muse Science Museum (muse.it), signed by Renzo Piano, turns 10 and celebrates with a rich calendar of very interesting events and exhibitions.


    The European Volleyball Championships (federvolley.it) start on August 15th, scheduled until September 16th in various Italian and European cities.

The final is scheduled in Bologna.


    Music, dancing and lots of fun on August 26 at the 26th edition of the Notte della Taranta (lanottedellataranta.it), the largest festival in Italy, which takes place in Melpignano, on the Salento peninsula.

The great protagonists of cinema are expected in Venice on 30 August for the 79th international film art exhibition, scheduled until 9 September.


    From 6 to 10 September Mantua hosts the Festivaletteratura (festivaletteratura.it), with readings, meetings, presentations, debates, concerts and many cultural events.

The Monza racing circuit (monzanet.it), which turns 100 this year, hosts the Formula One Italian Grand Prix on 3 September.

From the first, events and commemorations are planned.


    Palazzo Reale in Milan (palazzorealemilano.it) hosts the "El Greco" exhibition from 13 October to 4 February 2024, with a particular look at the artist's Italian period, between Rome and Venice.


    The Barcolana (barcolana.it) returns to the Gulf of Trieste from 1 to 9 November, a historic and grandiose regatta for boats of all types and a much-anticipated event by sea enthusiasts.


    Lucca Comics (luccacomicsandgames.com), the largest festival of comics, board games, video games and an obligatory appointment for all cos players in Europe, is back from 1 to 5 November: it is a multidisciplinary festival for all ages.


    December is the month dedicated to the Christmas markets and Santa Claus Villages, but also to the first ski runs on the major Italian ski areas, from the Aosta Valley to South Tyrol.
