The fireworks manufacturer Weco is not only in the spotlight these days because of New Year's Eve.
First there is trouble because of misogynist slogans, now comes the news that firecrackers are to be significantly more expensive.
As soon as New Year's Eve is over, the discussions about a ban on firecrackers pick up speed again.
And the calls for it are getting louder every year.
Not only for reasons of climate friendliness, but also because of the protection of animals and people.
The number of incidents involving riots, violence and serious injuries (including fatalities) alone makes such a discussion ever stronger.

Weco's balance sheet for New Year's Eve is pleasing - boom in demand due to firecrackers and fireworks
But a look at reality also shows that there has perhaps never been so much shooting in Germany as on this recent New Year's Eve.
The results of fireworks manufacturers are more than satisfied across the board.
This also applies to the major manufacturer Weco.
"According to the current state of knowledge, we have reached or even exceeded the level of 2019," said a spokesman for the Eitorf manufacturer Weco of the Lebensmittel-Zeitung.
2022 was a “very, very good sales year”, even if there are no final figures yet due to possible returns from retailers.
Misogynous slogans on Weco fireworks – Jan Delay outraged
The Weco company has not only made positive headlines about New Year's Eve in the past few days.
Numerous users had expressed outrage via Twitter about misogynistic sayings in crackers.
Weco then apologized for the misogynist slogans and even called prominent critics into action.
Including the singer Jan Delay, as reported by "WA.de".

Of course, Weco does not want to go out of business (such as the hardware store chains Obi or Hornbach).
Nevertheless, the fireworks manufacturer is planning drastic changes for the firecracker sale at the turn of the year.
This should affect the price, as reported by the Lebensmittel-Zeitung.
Fireworks manufacturer Weco wants to drastically increase prices
Weco wants to increase the prices for fireworks and firecrackers by up to 70 percent in December 2023.
Weco announces massive price increases.
"The increase ranges from 30 to 70 percent," said the manufacturer.
In addition to general cost increases, the reason for this is “the wage costs that have increased since the last year of production, 2019, but also, despite current declines, significantly higher freight rates for imports from China”.
