Geo Barents, the Médecins Sans Frontières search and rescue vessel, today rescued 73 people, including 16 unaccompanied minors, who were traveling on an unstable and overcrowded dinghy.
The survivors, says MSF, are doing well and are now being assisted by the medical team on board.
The Italian authorities have assigned the port of Ancona to the
Ocean Viking
which in the morning had rescued 37 migrants off the coast of Libya.
"The port is 1,575 km away from the area of operations, 4 days of navigation. The weather forecasts have worsened since Sunday night, exposing the shipwrecked to strong winds and rough seas", complains Sos Mediterranee.
