All information at a glance.
Munich - At the beginning of each month, there are important changes for consumers.
There will also be new regulations and changes in the law in January 2023. Consumers should also take a close look at the broadcasting fee.
A change on January 1, 2023 affects many contributors.
Broadcasting contribution in Germany: That changed on January 1, 2023
18.36 per month, 55.08 euros per quarter or 220.32 euros per year: almost all households have to pay the license fee.
For some contributors, there was a not insignificant change at the turn of the year.
As was officially announced in October 2022, the bank details of NDR, RBB and the joint account of all state broadcasters changed.
People from northern Germany are affected by the change:
RBB: Berlin, Brandenburg
NDR: Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein
The deadline was January 1, 2023. Anyone who pays the broadcasting fee as a single transfer or as a standing order should pay close attention and use the new IBAN for all future payments.
What is the broadcasting fee?
The public service broadcasters in Germany are financed with the license fee.
These include ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio.
Compared to ZDF and Deutschlandradio, ARD has nine state broadcasters that produce different TV and radio programs.
The broadcasting fee has been due since 2013 and came from the fee collection center of the public broadcasters (GEZ fee).
The GEZ was responsible for collecting the license fee until the end of 2012.
The broadcasting fee was increased in 2021.
Since then, it has been EUR 18.36 per month for most (with a few exceptions).
