Resistance to the demolition of the town of Lützerath in the Rhenish lignite mining area is increasing.
Numerous activists arrived on Saturday, shuttle buses brought them from nearby train stations to the impassable terrain.
Several new tents were set up in a camp on a field in the neighboring district of Erkelenz-Keyenberg.
In Lützerath, which was abandoned by the former residents, activists have already barricaded themselves in empty houses.
They want to prevent the demolition.
It is the prerequisite for the energy company RWE to be able to mine the coal located below the site.
The black-green NRW state government wants to have Lützerath cleared by the police, possibly in a few days.
The preparations are ongoing.
There have been protests in the past few days.
Concrete gas cylinders
In the social networks, initiatives with the hashtag #LuetzerathUnraeumbar called for participation in the resistance.
More barricades were erected on the streets of Lützerath.
Activists concreted gas bottles into the roadways to make them impassable.
The prominent climate activist Luisa Neubauer is expected in Lützerath on Sunday.
She called on supporters to come too.
The state government points out that in return for Lützerath, the coal phase-out was brought forward by eight years to 2030.
A circumstance that has not been able to calm the situation so far.
