Discounters like Lidl and Aldi Süd ended 2022 with a strong result.
Also because of a very good final.
Thanks for New Year's Eve.
Prices in the food retail trade have risen sharply in 2022 and have already brought some customers to the brink of despair.
However, an end to the price increases is not in sight for the time being.
For discounters like Aldi Süd or Lidl, the current inflation is both a blessing and a curse.
More and more people are turning the price tags three times and have become more economical.
And yet the discounters in particular benefit in comparison to supermarkets such as Kaufland, Rewe or the slightly more expensive Edeka (even if this Lidl attacked back because of a direct attack via advertising).
Lidl and Aldi-Süd report top results in 2022
So it's not surprising that Lidl and Aldi Süd ended 2022 with excellent results, as reported by the "Lebensmittel Zeitung".
The top discounters were recently on the move with clear double-digit growth, in some cases beyond the 15 percent mark, and were able to maintain the pace at the end of the year.
This means that there is even a chance that, despite high inflation, they have closed the year above the previous year in price-adjusted terms.
For the year 2023, some changes are pending when shopping in supermarkets.
Just getting out of the EC card at Kaufland should cause a stir.
Lidl and Aldi are also celebrating thanks to New Year's Eve
But what are the reasons for the excellent results of Aldi Süd and Lidl?
Especially towards the end of 2022?
Clearly, the rush for firecrackers, fireworks and Co. At Lidl, customers could even reserve fireworks in advance this time.
Which ultimately led to complete chaos in quite a few branches.
Some customers could only wonder.
On New Year's Eve, the demand for fireworks was exceptionally high across the whole trade.
Many stores were even sold out.
After a forced break of two years, retailers were allowed to sell firecrackers and rockets again for the first time.
Sales were even higher than 2019 for many.

Rush for firecrackers at Aldi and Lidl
The discounters were also able to pop their champagne corks at the end of the year, because business once again experienced a boom towards the end of the year.
Both Aldi and Lidl reported an enormous demand for fireworks, which often sold out very quickly.
Aldi Nord had organized subsequent deliveries for the branches, which were often sold out quickly.
However: Even at Lidl and Aldi there are always setbacks that have to be coped with.
In the future, the two discounters will have to do without the goods from the traditional manufacturer Prophete (a bicycle manufacturer).
He has now filed for bankruptcy.
How hard is inflation hitting Lidl and Aldi customers?
Nevertheless: Even in 2023, discounters in particular should again benefit from high demand.
After all, most people in Germany have not yet experienced the full extent of inflation.
Most utility bills are still pending.
Only then will the last person realize how much less money is left in the wallet.
