A 19-year-old was hit by a train after a police check in Oldenburg and fatally injured.
So far, everything points to an accident, said a police spokesman in Delmenhorst.
According to the information, the young man was checked by police officers in Oldenburg early on Saturday morning at around 4.20 a.m. because he was drunk on an e-scooter.
The officials found him to have a breath alcohol level of 1.34 per mille, took him to a police station for a blood test and then released him.
Accident near a railroad crossing
At around 5.45 a.m., the 19-year-old was hit by a train near a level crossing and fatally injured, the police said.
He is said to have been walking on a sidewalk along the train tracks.
The investigation is still in its infancy, the police spokesman said.
First of all, it must be examined to what extent allegations could be made.
It will not be determined against police officers.
The young man's relatives were cared for by crisis intervention teams.
According to the police, the railway line between Oldenburg and Leer was closed until noon.
