The Swedish-German eight-part true crime miniseries Riding in Darkness is now available in the ZDF media library.
It tells the equally shocking and encouraging story of three women who find themselves exposed to the physical and psychological abuse of 35-year-old Tommy on an idyllically situated horse farm.
The story of "Riding in Darkness" is based on the experiences of Swede Sophie Jahn, who spent her childhood in the 1980s and 90s on her father's successful horse farm.
On the outside, the family led an idyllic and enviably happy life, but behind the façade of the ostensible dream, things looked different.
Brutal methods of punishment, physical and psychological abuse and sexual harassment of the girls living on the farm were the order of the day.
The miniseries harrowingly expresses the ordeal of teenagers by initially focusing on the story of 16-year-old Molly, brilliantly played by Saga Samuelsson.
She lives with her alcoholic mother in 1990.
Molly tries to escape her dreary life and moves to the stud farm.
At first it seems that one of her dreams is about to come true.
She takes part in horse shows and enjoys sunny, carefree days with her new friends.
