A stuffed beef in the sausage department of an Edeka market in Hennigsdorf, Brandenburg, has led to angry reactions on the Internet.
Users accused the dealer of insensitive handling of animals.
The excitement started with a post on Instagram that a vegan Twitter user took up.
"When you think you've already seen all the tackiness of animal exploitation, comes Edeka Henningsdorf and places the stuffed body of a victim of the animal exploitation industry in the middle of liverwurst jars," he wrote.
Other users also commented emotionally on the picture.
"I'm at a loss for words," wrote one user, while another account called the action "macabre."
Another comment said: "Disgusting on the one hand, yes.
On the other hand, it might also be a good reminder that there are living creatures in these glasses.«
The animal rights organization PETA reacted outraged, even speaking of an "animal corpse scandal" in a statement.
One was shocked by the "macabre and disrespectful abuse of a dead animal" by the Edeka branch.
"It's absolutely cynical to prepare the corpse of a sentient being and place it among animal products like liverwurst as a supposed decoration." PETA suggested a "more realistic design": "Hang a replica of a cow on an iron hook from the ceiling , flood the floor with liters of fake blood, feces and urine and decorate the sausages with intestines.«
An Edeka spokeswoman appeased.
At the request of the "FAZ" she said: "The farm has already picked up the model".
It was an exhibit from a regional farm with free-ranging cattle, which was intended to draw attention to the supplier's products.
Customers responded "quite positively".
