Avatar: The Way of the Water
breaks new records.
The second part of the saga has exceeded 10 million admissions since its release in mid-December in France, and $ 1.7 billion at the global box office, its distributor announced in a press release on Monday.
James Cameron's film, released on December 14, garnered 10,102,350 admissions in less than four weeks in France, surpassing the new version of The
Lion King
, the last blockbuster to have sold more than ten million tickets.
Two-thirds of viewers saw the film in 3D, a technology for which it was specially shot.

Even if these performances are unprecedented since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic,
Avatar 2
remains at this stage still far from the record of 21 million admissions in France, still held by
Titanic
, by the same James Cameron.
It can however hope to exceed the first
Avatar
, released in 2009 and which brought together a total of 14.7 million spectators.
Worldwide,
Avatar 2
is now the seventh biggest hit of all time, according to its distributor: France is the third country where the science fiction film has the most success, behind the United States and China, but ahead of Germany and South Korea.
