At the Federal Network Agency, complaints about Deutsche Post and other postal companies are piling up.
Frankfurt – Damaged letters and parcels, late deliveries and items that never arrive – last year the Federal Network Agency received more complaints about Swiss Post than ever before.
A total of 43,500 complaints were registered with the federal authority in 2022, almost three times as many as in 2021, as the Federal Network Agency announced on Sunday (January 8th) at the request of the
German Press Agency
.
The complaints were directed against the entire German letter and parcel industry, but there was a lot of trouble with Deutsche Post.
A particularly large number of complaints were received about the market leader, mainly about delayed and lost shipments.
The Post speaks of local problems and justifies them with a high level of sick leave and a lack of staff.
Deutsche Post: Complaints have tripled
The Federal Network Agency informs that the postal companies themselves – i.e. Deutsche Post and other private providers – are initially responsible for complaints.
However, if there are persistent problems, consumers can contact the Federal Network Agency, for example if letters are not delivered at all or only irregularly.
"If the Federal Network Agency identifies a hotspot based on numerous complaints from a postcode area or a region, it requests the respective postal company to rectify existing deficiencies promptly and to permanently guarantee the legally required quality," says the federal authority.
The previous maximum number of complaints about the Post in 2020 was 18,867.
In 2021, 15,118 complaints were received about Deutsche Post and other postal service providers.
There could be some changes at the post office soon.
In the coalition agreement, the traffic light coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP agreed to amend the postal law.
