If there is a smell in your bathroom, it could be your shower drain.
Luckily, home remedies quickly provide a remedy – even without chemicals.
Over time, a number of things accumulate in the shower drain: long hair, grease and the everyday dirt that we scrub off our skin in the morning under the shower.
These deposits can clog the drain over time, or at the very least cause bad odors in the bathroom.
This is due to septic gases.
If the drain stinks, you don't have to reach for the pipe cleaner right away.
Home remedies also clean the drain in no time – and they are also environmentally friendly, without any chemicals.

Drainage in the shower stinks: Baking soda and vinegar remove odors
Soda and vinegar essence, which almost everyone in the household has in stock anyway, help against bad smells from the drain.
If not, you will find it in the drugstore.
That's how it works:
Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain.
Then pour in half a cup of vinegar essence.
Slowly, not too fast!
Put a wet rag on the drain and let it sit for about ten minutes.
Then slowly pour a liter of boiling water down the shower drain.
Please be careful: the water and hot steam can cause burns.
Done - now the smelly deposits should be gone from your shower drain.

Other home remedies that help against odors from the drain
If you don't have baking soda and vinegar essence in the house, the two miracle cures can also be replaced with other home remedies.
Instead of vinegar essence, you can also use normal vinegar and leave it on for five minutes longer.
Baking soda can be substituted with 3-4 tablespoons of baking powder, which already contains baking soda.
Or you can use soda (available in drugstores or pharmacies): Pour two tablespoons down the drain and leave for 30 minutes.
Then rinse with cold water.
Salt and hot water should also neutralize unpleasant odours: simply mix two tablespoons of salt with half a glass of hot water, pour it down the drain and rinse off after ten minutes.

Flush the shower drain regularly
Not only deposits in drain pipes and siphon can be the cause of bad smells from the shower.
If the shower is rarely used, as is often the case in guest bathrooms, the water barrier can dry out and cause a smell.
But the smell can also come from old, stagnant water.
Therefore, you should flush the shower drain at least once a week.

That's not a good sign.
