Interview with the Vampire: Criticism of the pilot episode for the German premiere on Sky

The new AMC series adaptation of the Anne Rice novel Interview with the Vampire is starting today as a German premiere on Sky.

The pilot review highlights, among other things, the main actors Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid as well as the differences between the book and the film.

To say that the "Interview with the Vampire" series (here the review of the first season) had a few hurdles on the way to its production would be a huge understatement.

The late Vampire Chronicles author Anne Rice and her son Christopher have been attempting to bring the gory material to TV since 2016 after regaining the adaptation rights.

But neither Bryan Fuller ("Hannibal") nor Dee Johnson ("Nashville") stayed on board as potential showrunners for very long and then the streaming service Hulu jumped off the vampire bandwagon.

In 2020, AMC finally acquired the rights to 18 of the author's supernatural novels and announced "Interview" as the first series to come to Germany via Sky Atlantic, Sky Go, WOW and Sky Q as of today.

Christopher Rice's involvement no longer seems to go beyond a credit as executive producer and considering how unwilling to compromise the mother-son duo often showed, it seems unlikely that the present reinterpretation approach by showrunner Rolin Jones ("Perry Mason ’) would have met with great approval in the Rice household.
