Three people were sentenced to death for killing members of the security forces in Isfahan during protests that have been going on for almost 4 months in Iran.

They were accused of an "armed terrorist attack" and of having shot and killed three members of the security forces, as reported by Irna.

They were sentenced to death for 'enmity against God' for having "undermined the security of the country" by using weapons and leading a criminal group.

In addition to the death penalty, they also received a 10-year prison sentence for membership in the dissident People's Mojahedin of Iran (MKO) group.

According to Irna, convicts can appeal against the sentence.

One person arrested in connection with the same case received a 26-year prison sentence, another was sentenced to 2 years in prison while a third was acquitted.

The well-known Iranian footballer Amir Nasr Azadani was instead sentenced to prison for his participation in the anti-government protests that have been going on for almost four months in Iran.

The sportsman, former defender for the Sepahan and Tractor teams, was sentenced to five years for belonging to an illegal group with the aim of damaging the country's security, five years for collusion in crimes against security and 16 years for 'Muharebeh ' (war against God).

The sentence for the footballer relates to a demonstration in Isfahan where three members of the security forces were killed, in the same case three other people were sentenced to death, including karate champion Saleh Mirhashemi.

Meanwhile, referring to the latest issue of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo which contains cartoons on the Iranian Supreme Guide Ali Khamenei, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, as reported by Irna, said that "resorting to insults under the pretext of freedom clearly proves the absurdity of the logic of those they offend and their desperation to find satisfaction from the conspiracy of chaos and insecurity in Iran".

Iran has called the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo "obscene" accusing it of inciting hatred.

"We regret that this magazine is being published in a country that claims to respect the values and rights of others but fails to uphold the most obvious principles governing international law," said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani, as reports Irna, adding that the cartoons of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, published in the latest issue of Charlie Hebdo, "are not simply an insult to the religious values of the Iranian nation but also an affront to the position of women in society".

Condemning the French Government"

Meta's Oversight Board (the company's content watchdog) today reversed the company's decision to remove a Facebook post that used the tagline "death to Khamenei," saying it didn't violate a rule that it bans violent threats because the phrase is often used to mean "down with Khamenei".

This was reported by the Reuters website.

"The German government strongly condemns the executions committed by the Iranian regime and calls again on Tehran not to carry out new executions".

German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said so at a press conference in Berlin.

"Together with international partners we will continue to increase pressure on the Iranian regime. We ask that they release all those arrested," he added.
