Ironing is annoying for many and can also cost a lot of money if you often use the steam function.

If you don't, you save as much energy as preparing 70 cups of coffee.

Converting to LED lamps, always switching off electronic devices after use and not leaving your mobile phone connected to the charging cable in the socket forever: there are many ways to save energy and therefore money.

This is more important than ever in the current energy crisis.

While most people don't want to do without a warm apartment in the winter months, there are other options or objects that you can or want to make compromises with.

This also applies to the iron.

According to the HEA – specialist association for efficient energy

use, those who do without the steam function are doing their wallet

a lot of good.

If you don't use steam with your iron, you save up to 90 percent energy

Because ironing costs a comparatively large amount of energy.

For comparison: one kilowatt hour of electricity is just enough for half an hour with a steam iron, with the same amount of electricity you can prepare 70 cups of coffee instead.

If you omit the steam, you save up to 90 percent of energy, also informs the

Federal Environment Agency

.

After all, the conversion of water into steam alone requires a lot of electricity.

The "steam iron requires electricity to heat the iron itself and also to generate steam," according to the website of the Federal Environment Agency.

"From an environmental point of view, it is therefore advisable to limit the generation of steam and thus the consumption of electricity."

By the way: Ironing stations are even bigger power guzzlers.

They usually consume more than a steam iron.

In addition, according to Stiftung Warentest, they are no better than the latter, since they do not offer any significant advantages in terms of ironing time.

Ironing without steam?

Spray from a bottle works too

The only problem is that anyone who has ever ironed without steam knows how difficult it is to get laundry nice and smooth.

After all, the iron no longer glides so effortlessly over the item of clothing to be processed.

However, there are other, cheaper tools to save electricity and still not have to walk around with creases in your blouse.

Accordingly, it is already sufficient if you moisten the respective piece of clothing with a little water mist from a spray bottle and then iron it.
