A body has washed up on a beach in Marbella, Spain.
According to initial reports, the dead person is said to be a 30-year-old woman.
At around 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, a guest at the “Club 200” restaurant alerted the police.
A group of tourists had seen the body floating in the water and initially assumed that the woman was still alive and in danger of drowning.
According to the Spanish daily ABC, some wanted to save the woman but hesitated because of the surf.
A short time later, the body was washed up on the shore.
When the rescuers arrived and pulled the body out of the water, they made a grisly discovery: the head and both hands were missing.
There were also deep cuts in the stomach area.
Not the first headless corpse in the region
Now the Guardia Civil is investigating.
The area around the site on Las Cañas beach, around eleven kilometers east of Málaga, has been cordoned off.
The body will now be autopsied as soon as possible.
Nothing is known about a possible motive for the alleged act of violence.
The police are not ruling anything out at this point.
In the spring of last year, a hiker in the municipality of Villanueva del Trabuco, also in the province of Málaga, discovered a naked body without a head, hands or genitals.
The body was found near the A-92 highway, reports »El País«.
The police assume in the case that it is a victim of a dispute between drug dealers on the Costa del Sol.
