Trumpeter Avishai Cohen's album, "Naked Truth", was ranked by the British newspaper as the fifth best album for 2022 • Saxophonist Oded Tzur's album, "Isabella", was ranked seventh

The albums of the Israeli jazz musicians, Avishai Cohen and Oded Tzur, entered the list of the ten greatest jazz albums for 2022 according to the ranking of the British Guardian.

The choice of the newspaper expresses the great appreciation of the world's music industry for the Israeli jazz musicians and their qualities.

The four musicians in trumpeter Cohen's quartet are Israelis: pianist Yonatan Avishi, bassist Barak Mori and drummer Ziv Ravitz.

And in the saxophonist Zur's quartet, the Israeli pianist Nitai Hershkowitz plays alongside the Greek bassist Petros Klampanis and the American drummer Jonathan Blake.

Cohen's album "Naked Truth" was ranked fifth in the Guardian's ranking, and it was written: "Miles Davis, whom Avishai Cohen admires, is present in almost every sound of his, but Cohen's independence and imagination are also present in the album."

Cohen himself is one of the most successful Israelis in the world today, and for four consecutive years he was the "Critics' Choice" of the prestigious jazz magazine DownBeat and was even chosen as "Jazz Artist of the Year" in France.

Cohen's great new album is structured as a nine-part suite.

In the last part, Cohen chose to read the poem "Farewell" by the poetess Zelda against the background of the quartet's melancholy playing.

Not only because of the British ranking, it is a delightful album that will surprise mainly those who have never heard the name Avishai Cohen and never listened to his music.

"Isabella" by Oded Tzur was chosen in seventh place in the ranking of the British newspaper.

is a love song dedicated to Tzur's wife and bears her name.

"Tzur's unique saxophone whisper does not come from imitating other saxophonists but from the ghostly sound of the bamboo flute and the study of the raja forms of India that he mastered," the rating editors wrote about the album.

According to Tzur, who has been living in New York for the past few years, the album is an attempt to create a musical portrait of his wife.

"What interested me during the creation was to check whether it is even possible to write music that would sound like the person for whom it was written and retain its charm," he said.

"Isabella" is a great album called "a perfect masterpiece" by the jazz magazine All About Jazz.
