US actress Drew Barrymore has two daughters aged ten and eight.

In an interview, she now spoke about her role as a mother – and how it has changed over the years.

"All these parents who are on top of everything -- hygiene, nutrition, schedules, setting boundaries -- God bless you," she said on YouTube's popular culture show Chicks in the Office.

She herself knew nothing of all this when she had children and often "felt like a failure".

She was often overwhelmed by the task and gradually had to learn more.

She regularly thought: "I don't know what I'm doing here." On the other hand, other parents often suggested to her that nowadays you know everything you need to know.

However, that was not the case with her.

"Where are the parents who admitted it's funny, embarrassing, sobering and wild?"

She is now having "the best time ever" with her two daughters.

That was not always so.

"I used to be very hard on myself," says Barrymore.

Today she is better at taking care of herself and treating herself more lovingly.

"It gives me strength to admit that I don't know some things, that I have mistakes and that I keep working on myself," says the actress.

She sees a need for improvement, for example, in the way she reacts to her children in everyday situations.

"I want to learn to be even more patient, kind and rational," she says.

Whenever she doesn't manage to do this, she is very angry with herself. »But that just happens, I'm human.

I learn from it.«
