The expensive petrol agitates the government and the majority.

Everyone is aware of the seriousness of the problem affecting citizens: the frequent exceeding of the threshold, not only psychological, of two euros per litre, is a worrying alarm bell.

Giorgia Meloni meets the heads of the Guardia di Finanza and launches new rules on the transparency of fuel distributors to block speculation.

An ad hoc decree for price monitoring that will no longer be weekly but daily: the obligation to display the price at the pump is introduced with penalties that could be imposed by the prefect.

The new measures provide for another regulation to set a ceiling on increases in the cost of fuel on the motorways.

Among other things, the managers will have to display signs indicating the national average price established by the Ministry of the Environment.

However, differences emerge in the center-right as to what is the right recipe for getting out of this situation.

And not only that: different views on the causes of the problem itself are also emerging.

The prime minister and the League are convinced that the price increases are the result of speculation: and for this reason the intervention on market transparency for the benefit of consumers has been examined and approved by the Council of Ministers.

Forza Italia thinks that the problem is not caused by the dealers' greed but by excise duties, the cut of which has not been extended in the manoeuvre.

"On fuels - underlines the group leader Alessandro Cattaneo - in our opinion, there is no speculation underway, but certainly there is a theme linked to prices, which we must face".

A divergence, it is said, which forced the head of government to intervene in the CDM, forcefully explaining the reasons for the "transparency operation"

and returning requests to intervene on excise duties to the sender, clarifying that the problem absolutely cannot be solved in this way.

An explanation that could be translated in the next few hours into a video that can be seen by all citizens.

Meanwhile, the debate-clash goes on, and not only between the parties: if the Antitrust asks the Gdf for documentation of "ascertained violations", the Ministry of the Environment disseminates data according to which the price increase, in the first week January, is "substantially in line with the increase due to the failure to extend the excise cut".

On the same ridge, speculation yes, speculation no, there is also strong tension between consumer associations and those of oil companies.

According to Codacons "prices should have gone down much more", going so far as to hypothesize "anomalies or speculations".

Of the opposite opinion is Faib Confesercenti, according to which "the managers are the injured party".

The Prime Minister and the Economy Minister, Giancarlo Giorgetti,

they see the General Commander of the Guardia di Finanza, General Giuseppe Zafarana, at Palazzo Chigi, precisely to take stock and, underlined the government, "to evaluate any possible further action to contrast the speculation taking place on fuel prices".

The details are not yet known, however a directive from the Guardia di Finanza, which follows the indications arrived from the Mef, provides for a "structured and widespread" control activity on the territory, especially on the motorways, with the aim "of helping to calm price increases".

The plan has already started and involves over 660 operational departments of the Corps, supported by the special departments.

The Fiamme Gialle also let it be known that any speculative maneuvers could constitute two different types of crime sanctioned by articles 501 and 501 bis of the penal code: 'fraudulent price increases and decreases on the public market or on stock exchanges' and 'speculative maneuvers on goods '.

It is the line strongly desired by the League.

The government - announces Matteo Salvini, secretary but also the minister of infrastructures - aims to "intervene on the concessionary companies and above all on those who manage the toll booths and petrol pumps on the motorways, to keep prices under control, because going to work cannot and it doesn't have to be a luxury."

The minister for relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, illustrates the state of the debate within the executive: "

The government's decision not to extend the cut in excise duties was very thought out and very painful, a measure which, however, costs over one billion a month.

The government has decided to use those resources to increase minimum pensions, to cut the tax wedge, therefore all social measures.

It is clear - adds the FdI exponent - that if there is the possibility, and the accounts allow it, as soon as possible we will also be able to reduce the cost of petrol.

But I remember that we have committed 30 billion to reduce the cost of bills".
