The shower curtain is an ideal breeding ground for germs and mold.
At the latest when it turns pink, it is time for a thorough cleaning.
The shower curtain leads a rather unnoticed existence in most households.
Most people just want a quick shower in the morning – and then off to work.
Over time, a lot of dirt and germs accumulate on the curtain, which is why we should pay at least as much attention to it as cleaning the toilet.
At the latest when you discover a pink coating, the good piece should quickly be put in the washing machine.

Pink film on shower curtain - is that mold?
Wetness sometimes causes a pink film on the shower curtain, a so-called biofilm, especially at the bottom edge.
This is not mold, but microorganisms.
In this environment, however, bacteria and fungi quickly form.
Not only does this sound unappetizing, it can also lead to skin infections like acne.

How do I clean the shower curtain?
The shower curtain can usually be easily cleaned in the washing machine.
Be sure to check the washing label first.
Most curtains can be cleaned at 30° with a mild detergent.
In the case of heavy soiling, you can add an additional 50 g of baking soda directly to the washing drum.
Then simply hang it back on the shower rod to dry.
It's quicker if you clean the shower curtain right on the rod.
To do this, fill a spray bottle with a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts water and spray it on the affected area.
After half an hour, rinse off with lukewarm water and leave to dry.
Other home remedies are also suitable for removing limescale and dirt from the shower curtain: citric acid, for example, has an antibacterial effect and dissolves limescale in no time.
Simply apply like vinegar and then rinse off with cold water so that no calcium citrate is deposited.
Or you stir baking soda with a little water to a creamy paste, smear it on the curtain and leave it on for about 45 minutes.
Then rinse off - done.

How often should the shower curtain be cleaned?
According to experts, the shower curtain should be cleaned regularly.
Even if there is no visible dirt to be seen.
This prevents germs and mold from spreading on the shower curtain.
The frequency depends on how busy the shower is.
In a single household, it is sufficient if it is cleaned about every eight weeks.
If several people live together and the shower curtain often gets wet, it is best to wash it once a month.
How do I prevent mold on the shower curtain?
So that mold doesn't stand a chance, make sure that it can always dry well.
Rinse the shower curtain thoroughly after each shower to remove soap residue and sebum.
Then spread out the curtain so that there are no creases and ventilate the bathroom well.
As a preventative measure, you can soak the shower curtain in salt water for 12 hours after washing.
This creates a protective layer on which mold cannot spread so quickly.
