The suspect in the knife attack in Illerkirchberg has confessed to stabbing a girl several times with a knife.

This was announced on Tuesday by the police and public prosecutor's office in Ulm.

The 27-year-old man was questioned last week.

He also stated that he had not known the two girls before.

According to the police, the information corresponds to the results of the trace analysis.

DNA traces of the killed 14-year-old were found on both the suspected knife and the man's clothing.

According to the authorities, the suspect is a man from Eritrea.

No information on possible motives

A 14-year-old girl died in the knife attack on December 5, and her 13-year-old friend was seriously injured. She has now been able to leave the hospital.

The alleged perpetrator is in custody in a prison hospital.

According to the public prosecutor, he had been operated on for hours after the crime with considerable injuries.

A police spokesman had previously said the man may have injured himself with the knife.

The authorities did not provide any information on the man's possible motives.

According to the authorities, the alleged perpetrator has never been noticed by violent crimes.

He was only caught once as a dodger and otherwise not known to the police, said the spokesman for the public prosecutor's office.

Two days after the violent crime, a temporary suspect killed himself, according to investigators.

As reported by the public prosecutor and the police, the 25-year-old was arrested and interrogated in December - but was released a little later.

The authorities emphasized that there was no suspicion against him.
