Mattarella: Iran stops. 'Stop the violence and executions'


The president conveyed to the Iranian ambassador 'Italy's firm condemnation and indignation at the brutal repression of demonstrations, the death sentences and the execution of many demonstrators' (ANSA)

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic,

Sergio Mattarella,

received the new ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Reza Sabouri, at the Quirinale for the presentation of his credentials.

In the

brief conversation

- informs the Quirinale - President Mattarella expressed the

firm condemnation of the Italian Republic

and his personal indignation at the brutal repression of the demonstrations and

at the death sentences and executions of many demonstrators


The Head of State urged the ambassador to represent to the Iranian authorities

the urgency of immediately putting an end to the violence directed against the population


The respect with which Italy regards its international partners and their legal systems finds

an insurmountable limit in the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
