(ANSA) - LONDON, 11 JAN - The post-Brexit exodus is not seen for now, at least among Italians in London, according to an elaboration published by the Bloomberg agency of recently updated data released by the British Office for National Statistics (Ons).
Data that indeed reveal how the vast community of compatriots residing in the capital continues to grow: and has reached 146,000, overtaking the Indians surveyed (137,000) as the single largest contingent of foreigners present in the City and its surroundings.
Bloomberg broadens the horizon to include the entire United Kingdom, reporting - at the end of 2021 - a 40% increase in the total number of Italians transplanted across the Channel in the last decade: around 300,000 just by counting people registered in the consular registers of residents abroad (Aire).
An influx that has always concentrated above all on London, where - contrary to what is indicated for other communities of Western European countries, overall in decline due to the obstacles set up by the consequences of the divorce of the Kingdom from the EU - the statistics continue to show a trend towards growth .
Just as occurs towards London from various large non-European countries.
Moreover, the emergence of old 'semi-clandestine' presences also weighs heavily: with the registration to the
Aire of Italians who in the past did not even consider having to register (despite legal obligations);
and which instead have come to the fore in recent years in search of greater protection with respect to the uncertainties of the post-Brexit period.
