(ANSA) - MOSCOW, JAN 11 - Russian airborne troops have surrounded Ukrainian forces in the town of Soledar, Donbass, and are now bombing them.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Moscow, quoted by the RiaNovosti news agency.
The Russians, the ministry specifies, have blocked the city to the north and south.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was "in no hurry" to declare victory in Soledar.
"We are waiting for the official reports, but there is a positive dynamic in the evolution", said Ria Novosti.
The Ukrainian army meanwhile denies claims by the head of the "Wagner" mercenaries Yevgeny Prigozhin that the city of Soleadr is under Russian control.
"The Russians say that Soledar is under their control, this is not true," says the representative of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Cherevaty as reported by Ukrainska Pravda.
Yesterday night the Russian mercenaries of the Wagner Group claimed the conquest of Soledar, the founder and head of the militia, the oligarch friend of Putin Ievgheni Prigozhin, had declared on Telegram.
