(ANSA) - ROME, 11 JAN - "We ask for an immediate moratorium on the death penalty. Anyone who has taken part in demonstrations cannot be condemned. And we ask the Iranian government to confront women and young people".
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this on Tg5 speaking of the situation in Iran.
"The European institutions are studying a strategy that allows for constant proportionate responses to the aggressiveness of the Iranian regime", he added, "we cannot accept that this constant violation of human rights continues".
Tajani, commenting on the new calls for a tough fist launched by Tehran's leadership, noted: "Verbal and physical violence like the one we see in Iran demonstrates that the regime is in trouble".
