By completely disconnecting devices from the power supply, a lot of money can be saved.
For many this is no problem, for some you have to be careful.
Munich - In times of the energy crisis, many people in Germany groan under the high gas and electricity prices.
The second heating subsidy from the federal government is just the thing.
But because not everyone can benefit from this payment and changing providers does not bring any relief either, the top priority is: reduce consumption and thus save costs.
If you turn the right screws in the household, you save money.
Many household appliances can be unplugged without hesitation
And there are many of them.
The apartment is teeming with electronic devices.
Whether television, washing machine, PC, refrigerator or coffee machine, the list could be extended at will.
Many devices must also be connected to the power supply at night, while others do not.
It goes without saying that you always leave a fridge or freezer plugged in.
However, a microwave can be unplugged from the mains without hesitation.
It does not require a constant power supply and should only be plugged in when you actually use it.
The only downside: the clock has to be reset every time.
This also applies to coffee machines or fully automatic machines in the kitchen.
But just like the toaster, they don't need permanent electricity.
Save electricity by unplugging?
Beware of OLED TVs and inkjet printers
In the bathroom and basement, hair dryers, hair straighteners, washing machines and tumble dryers can be completely disconnected from the power supply when they are not in use, or you can flip the switch on the socket strip.
Consumer electronics devices are considered to be power guzzlers.
According to the consumer advice center, almost a third of a household's electricity costs are attributable to televisions, PCs or games consoles.
Here, too, there is considerable energy-saving potential.
Computers, PC screens, mobile phone chargers, hi-fi systems, radios and routers can be unplugged from the power supply without hesitation.
A positive side effect: if the router is switched off, the radiation exposure drops.
OLED TVs can break if they are not permanently powered
However, be careful with televisions.
Modern OLED devices could take it amiss if they are not supplied with standby power.
OLED televisions perform pixel refreshments at intervals in standby mode.
If they lack electricity, the image could burn in, writes the consumer

There is also an exception for printers.
In the case of inkjet printers, the saving effect of disconnecting from the power supply could backfire, warns
Stiftung Warentest
.
Each time the printer is switched on, it flushes the jet nozzles with ink to prevent them from drying out.
The tanks empty without having printed any paper.
And new ink cartridges are not exactly cheap.
