The cause of the blockade is still uncertain, but the White House rules out a cyberattack. Biden calls for 'a full investigation into the causes'. Over 4,600 flights affected by delays due to the stop (ANSA)

"The stop of flights decided by the FAA was caused by a failure in the Notam system. Traffic was restored after 90 minutes".

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said so in a press briefing, reiterating that "at the moment there is no evidence that the problem was caused by a cyberattack".

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had announced that it had lifted the suspension of flights in the USA following a problem with the notification system for air missions, the cause of which has not yet been ascertained.

Operations gradually resumed from 9am on Wednesday.

More than 4,600 flights have been affected by delays

due to the stop.

Joe Biden has called for “a full investigation into the causes”

.

The US president spoke with Transport Minister Pete Buttigieg about the stop of flights.

"The causes are not yet known, but in a couple of hours" the FAA "should have a better sense of what caused" the stoppage, says the American president, underlining that at the moment, however, planes can land safely even if they cannot take off.

In a statement to NBC, the

Federal Aviation Administration

this morning said it was "at work to restore the notification system for air missions".

“We are performing final validation checks and restocking the system. Operations throughout the National Airspace system are affected. We will provide frequent updates as we make progress.” Several people tweeted that they were stranded due to the service interruption, report the US media.

The situation of intercontinental flights to and from the United States appears to be

normal at Malpensa airport

.

This is what airport sources interviewed by ANSA report.
