Exchange period ends: These driver's licenses expire this month

If you miss the deadline when exchanging your driver's license, you have to expect a penalty.

ADAC experts now call the crucial documents for the important exchange. 

At the turn of the year 2023, a lot will change in road traffic.

New rules apply to motorists - fines and points are threatened.

And something has also happened with the driver's license.

It was not until July 2022 that the period for exchanging a driver's license for some vintages expired, as

reported.

Now the next generations are affected.

About 15 million paper driver's licenses and 28 million credit card driver's licenses are affected by the large driver's license exchange.

With the new regulation, if the license was issued before January 19, 2013, it must be exchanged.

After that there is only the EU driver's license in credit card format.

Driver's license exchange for certain years: Deadline ended January 2023

In July 2022, drivers born between 1953 and 1958 were affected.

Now the next deadline for the driver's license exchange is ending soon.

According to a table by the General German Automobile Club (ADAC), January 2023 will be for people born between 1959 and 1964.

All drivers who belong to this age group should now immediately deal with the exchange of their driving licence.

According to the information, the offices need several weeks for the entire process.

Exchanging old driver's licenses: This is how the change works

As the ADAC writes, the driver's license exchange runs relatively smoothly before the deadline.

The persons concerned must go to your driver's license office and apply there for the exchange of their driver's license for motorcycle and car classes.

No exam or health check is required.

However, you should have your identity card or passport, a biometric passport photo and a current driver's license with you.

Validity of the new driver's license

According to the ADAC, the new EU driving license remains valid for an unlimited period, regardless of when you took the driving test.

Only the "validity of the driver's license document is limited to 15 years".
