(ANSA) - ANCONA, 12 JAN - The Geo Barents, of MSF, has entered the port of Ancona and has docked at quay 22. On board are 73 shipwrecked people, picked up off the coast of Libya a few days ago.
The Doctors Without Borders ship arrived at the Scalomarchigiano, assigned by the Ministry of the Interior, one day late, after five days of cruising at reduced speed due to bad weather.
The castaways also suffered from seasickness, as did MSF staff.
"An unnecessary suffering - according to Fulvia Conte, in charge of rescue operations on board - which adds to that which the migrants who fled from Libya where they were tortured endured. They could have been avoided with the assignment of a port closer to Ancona".
The day before yesterday the Ocean Viking had arrived in Ancona, with 37 shipwrecked people on board,
