Samsung phones: updates for Note 20 models end

Samsung apparently wants to stop updating its Note 20 series.
This means that there will soon be no more updates for the Korean manufacturer's smartphones.
We tell you which devices are affected.
Munich – With the update off for the Note 20 models, Samsung is finally burying the Note series.
The group announced last February that it would discontinue the series and instead focus on clamshell phones.
The last model in the series was launched in 2020 in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 (Ultra).
In the meantime, however, Samsung has announced the end of production, which was completely discontinued at the end of 2021.
The South Korean manufacturer's roadmap does not include a device for 2022.
Updates are ending for these Samsung models:
model | warranty period | Android version | published |
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 | three-year update guarantee | with Android 14 | 2020 |
Samsung Note 20 Ultra | three years | with Android 14 | 2020 |
Without manufacturer updates, smartphones may no longer be able to install some apps or use individual functions.
In addition, the device may become more susceptible to viruses if security gaps are no longer closed by updates.
According to Computerbild.de
, security updates will probably be released for both Note 20 models by
2024.

Samsung stops updating Note 20 models: Attackers can cause damage
When it comes to Android security updates, Samsung basically takes a three-pronged approach: current top models receive monthly security updates, mid-range and entry-level smartphones receive quarterly updates and older models still receive sporadic security updates.
As soon as the security updates are missing, users should be concerned.
Because then possible critical security gaps are no longer closed.
This makes it easier for attackers to smuggle malware such as viruses and Trojans onto the smartphone and cause damage.
Samsung will present its business figures at the end of January.
The group expects a sharp drop in profits for the fourth quarter.
