German supermodel Tatiana Patitz has died at the age of 56, the modeling agency where she worked said yesterday (Wednesday).
The model, who lived in California, died after a battle with breast cancer.
She left behind an only son - 19-year-old Jonah.
Petitz rose to fame in the 1990s and became one of the most prominent supermodels of the decade.
She appeared on the famous British "Vogue" cover in 1990 alongside supermodels Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington, thus establishing her position as one of the five "original" top models of the 90s.
She also appeared in music videos for Duran Duran and George Michael.

Anna Wintour, editor of "Vogue" magazine, paid tribute to her: "Tatiana has always been the European symbol of chic. She was always much less visible than her colleagues - more mysterious, more mature, and unattainable - and this caused an effect of attraction to her," she said.

The Peter Lindbergh Foundation also paid tribute to her: "She had kindness, inner beauty and extraordinary intelligence. We will miss her very much."
Petitz's last show was in 2019, at Etro's show during Milan Fashion Week.
She previously starred in campaigns for Chanel, Calvin Klein, Versace and other brands.
