The ARD Sunday talk »Anne Will« will be discontinued at the end of the year after around 16 years.

The 56-year-old will not extend the contract, said the Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR) in Hamburg.

NDR and ARD are in talks about a successor to the Sunday format.

According to NDR, Anne Will rules out a renewed contract extension for the previous show in favor of new projects that she is already talking to the broadcaster about.

»Anne Will« is the most-watched political discussion program on German-speaking television.

Most recently, an average of more than 3.6 million viewers followed the talk on Sunday evening.

The program was broadcast for the first time in September 2007, after Sabine Christiansen had previously given up her talk show.

From 2011 to 2015, "Anne Will" lost the prestigious slot on Sunday evening because Günther Jauch was awarded it during this time.

Anne Will began her journalistic career in the 1990s at Sender Freies Berlin.

There she moderated the "Sportpalast" and the media show "Parlazzo".

In 1999 she became known nationwide when she was the first woman to moderate the »Sportschau«.

A year later, Will reported on the Olympic Games in Sydney.

Like other political talk shows, "Anne Will" has also been criticized in the past for always having the same protagonists or for discussions that were too shallow.
