Here, a tour of 6 palaces open to the public, distributed in different Buenos Aires neighborhoods, which propose a journey through time.
1. Errazuriz Alvear Palace
It was designed in 1911 by the architect René Sergent, in a French neoclassical style and had a large number of
technological advances for the time
: two elevators, a central heating system and a centralized dust extraction system.

The building was the residence of Josefina de Alvear and Matías Errázuriz Ortúzar, a family from the Buenos Aires aristocracy that organized receptions, concerts and charity dances.
In 1936, the State bought the house and its art collections.
A year later, the
National Museum of Decorative Art
was inaugurated , which not only houses valuable pieces of art and furniture from different periods, but also reveals the lifestyle of a patrician family at the beginning of the 20th century.
The museum can be visited from
Wednesday to Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
, with the last entry at 6:30 p.m.
Also open on holidays.

are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 4:00

The second Wednesday of each month there is a thematic guided tour, also at 4:00 p.m.

2. Peace Palace
It was the largest
residence in
Argentina and some say that in all of South America.
It is about the building that José C. Paz dreamed of, but that he could not enjoy because he died before it was finished.
Built between 1902 and 1914, it has
140 rooms
, including 30 bathrooms and 5 dining rooms.
It also has 17 stairs and 10 elevators.
Paz's family - the son with his wife, the daughter with her husband and four children, and the widow - moved into the residence along with approximately
70 people
who work there.

Due to the crisis of 1930, the family had to part with their residence and in 1932 it was acquired by the
Círculo Militar
, a civil and private institution, current owner of the property.
During a guided tour of approximately an hour and a half, the entire
main floor
is shown , intended for receiving guests.
There you visit the ballroom and the great hall of honor, where the owners of the house met with the guests at the events, the formal dining room, among others.

3. Palace of the National Congress
The Palace of Congress is part of the historical heritage of our country.
The building was designed by the architect Víctor Meaño, who was the winner of a contest held in 1895, to which 28 projects were submitted.
Construction began in 1898 and was partially inaugurated in 1906. The work was only completed
forty years later
, in 1946.
Its dome, one of the
largest
in the city, is eighty meters above sea level and weighs thirty thousand tons.
Its characteristic green color is due to the copper patina produced by oxidation of this metal in contact with air.
In the National Congress there are guided tours in Spanish and English.

4. Palace of Running Waters
Its façade is the best known and
admired
: the cladding was made of 130,000 glazed bricks and 300,000 ceramic pieces imported from Belgium and England.
Construction began in 1887, when it was decided to supply the Capital with a running water network and it was the first
Great Distributing Deposit of drinking water
that the City had.

Apart from its beauty, it is also a majestic work of engineering.
Inside, it has one of the largest cast iron structures on the continent: there are 3 floors of tanks supported by 180 columns capable of holding more than 72 million liters of water.
In 1989, it was declared a National Historic Monument.
There is a
museum
that tells the history of water and sanitation in Buenos Aires, and the project and construction of the headquarters.
Curious pieces and sanitary artifacts are exhibited, as well as an interesting collection of pipes, meters and faucets, of different materials and origin.
There are also artistic samples related to water.

5. Duhau Palace
Inspired by the Chateau Du Marais -a castle on the outskirts of France- and located in the heart of the
Recoleta
neighborhood , this palace served as the residence of the Duhau family between 1935 and 1995.
Five years later the restorations began to go from being a family home to a luxury hotel, today called
Palacio Duhau-Park Hyatt Buenos Aires
, which preserves all the details of the period architecture.

6. Barolo Palace
It is inspired by the famous poem
Divina Commedia
, by Dante Alighieri, and is famous for its architecture.
Like the text, the building is divided into three sections, Hell, Purgatory and Paradise.
It was Luis Barolo who ordered the construction and the architect Mario Palanti carried it out.
The then mayor Luis Cantilo granted it a special concession since the 24 floors (22 floors and 2 basements) at
100 meters high
were almost four times the maximum allowed on Avenida de Mayo.
