The city of Gancedo, Chaco, seemed to be part of a science fiction scene when from one moment to the next it was covered by an
impressive cloud of dust and earth
that covered it almost entirely.
The drought that has affected the province in recent weeks was one of the main causes of this situation, since the
high temperatures and the lack of rain
left the soil dry and prone to erosion.
The situation was aggravated by the extremely high temperatures in the area, with weather
reaching 40 degrees
.
Also, many of the areas of the city are not protected by vegetation, which allowed the wind to blow freely and lift dust from the ground.
Gancedo is in western Chaco and about 240 kilometers from the provincial capital, Resistencia.
In that district, in relation to agricultural activity, it is called the "agricultural dome", where soybean, sunflower, corn, and some cotton and alfalfa productions stand out.
The instant in which the cloud of dust invaded the city was recorded by the residents who,
shocked
, recorded with their cell phones the moment when everything suddenly went dark.
Moments after the phenomenon, a storm brought relief to the entire province that had been wanting water for several days.
Such was the case that the National Meteorological Service website indicates an alert for strong storms, with heavy rain,
gusts and occasional hail
.
After the forecast came true, there was a marked drop in temperature, with
22.2°C in Resistencia
.
Meanwhile, the Police carried out a tour of the Gancedo area and found damage caused by the storms, where roofs, gates,
fallen poles
and trees were observed,
as well as power outages
and telephone signals.
Capitanich received producers and promised to sign the emergency decree
Drought and dry weather continue to pose a panorama of great uncertainty for crops and livestock activity.
Under this scenario, representatives of the regional Liaison Commission met with the Governor of the province of Chaco, Jorge Capitanich, and requested concrete measures regarding the problem that the province is experiencing.
With this request, Governor Capitanich promised to sign the decree in the next few hours so that it can later be approved by the national government.
And according to reports, a livestock disaster will be declared throughout the province and an agricultural emergency in the affected departments.
In addition, it should be noted that within the petition, the producers stated that "together with the benefits contemplated, we have also requested that other taxes be eliminated, such as the entry and exit of products at the provincial level and the possibility of implementing a line of credit to recover the working capital".
