After 16 years, Anne Will will end her talk show on ARD at the end of 2023.

The 56-year-old wants to devote herself to new projects.

Read the background to the decision here:

On Sunday (January 15, 2023, 9.45 p.m., ARD) she will come back from the winter break to discuss the most important topics of the week – previously she catapulted herself into the headlines: Anne Will is putting an end to the Sunday talk on the first.

The NDR announced this on Friday (January 13, 2023).

A bang.

When is it over?

The 56-year-old will continue to broadcast from Berlin throughout the year.

At the end of 2023, Anne Will say goodbye - after 16 years, which she moderated the format for the time being and incidentally also produced it with her company.

Why is she stopping?

It is probably a very personal decision that Anne Will made here.

Her contract expires at the end of the year.

According to reports, the ARD would have liked to extend.

But the native of Cologne ruled that out – in favor of new tasks.

"2024 is a new start!" She explains in a message from the broadcaster.

Then it's time for change, other projects, new perspectives.

Anne Will: "I've always really enjoyed doing the show and I'm infinitely grateful for the trust in my journalistic work and the great success." Now is a good time to stop.

How did the show end up?

Very good.

In any case, the quotas cannot be the reason for the farewell.

"Anne Will" is the most-watched political discussion program on German-speaking television.

And: The past two years have been the most successful in the history of the show.

In 2022, more than 3.6 million viewers tuned in on average.

What does the broadcaster say?

Her boss or client, NDR director Joachim Knuth, only has words of praise for his talk lady: "Anne Will has shaped the political discussion in the country for many years with great success: she informs, surprises, sometimes she provokes." For them He is very grateful to "Ms. Will" for his constant performance.

What's next?

Anne Will, it seems, wants to continue working as a journalist.

And is, as far as the “new projects” mentioned at the beginning are concerned, already in talks with the NDR.

It is unlikely that she will present a new format as a presenter.

Then she could have stayed with the talk.

Documentaries or portraits are more obvious.

According to information from our newspaper, it is certain that ARD will continue to broadcast a political talk show on Sundays at 9:45 p.m.

Who could take over?

The question is not that easy to answer - which really doesn't reflect well on ARD's youth work in this area.

In any case, there are no young political talkers in the third programs who would impose themselves.

Ingo Zamperoni is the one who would certainly have a Sunday break in the cross.

With the “daily topics” he recently showed – just think of the conversation with Robert Habeck – that he can conduct interviews.

Marietta Slomka from the "heute-journal" as well, of course.

The name Markus Lanz also belongs in the discussion.

He is self-confident enough to have the courage to do it, uses all the tallows and not too long ago openly railed against his broadcaster, ZDF, when it came to the ever-changing start times of his talk show.

One could also think of Linda Zervakis.

She doesn't do her job badly at ProSieben, before the federal election last year - by the way together with new ARD talker Louis Klamroth - held talks with Olaf Scholz, Annalena Baerbock and others - and should be unhappy with the private broadcaster given the fact that her magazine “Zervakis & Opdenhövel.

Live” runs almost to the exclusion of the public.

Conclusion

She should be pleased that Anne Will managed to surprise her by announcing her departure.

Her timing was also clever: The change in "Hart aber fair" from Frank Plasberg to Louis Klamroth has been extensively discussed in the press, so the headlines now belong to her alone.

And the times you choose to go are the best anyway.

In this respect – everything was done correctly.

One would like to call out to the ARD on this day that there is now a year (!) to develop something new - and maybe something really new will come out of it in the end.

The idea – a moderator and five guests – has slowly become obsolete.
