Colleen Hoover's novel Just One More Time is currently number two on the SPIEGEL bestseller list for paperbacks, up until last week it was number one there.
A sequel was released last year, and a film adaptation is also being discussed.
And the author enthusiastically announced a coloring book based on the novel earlier this week.
However, even her fans reacted sourly to this.
"I think you're taking the commercialization of the book too far," someone wrote to her on Instagram.
The fact that it is a touching play, but also about domestic violence, was not well received by the readers.
"This is disgusting," wrote another reader.
"How can you turn a novel about abuse into something as light-hearted as a coloring book?"
Hoover's reaction was quick: "I heard and agree with you," Hoover wrote on Instagram.
“I contacted the publishers and told them that I would prefer not to go ahead with the plans.” Publisher Atria Books responded shortly thereafter and announced that the book would not be published.
