Deutsche Bahn wants to counteract the main cause of delays with an innovation.
However, most passengers still have to be patient.
Dortmund – In 2022, Deutsche Bahn was less punctual in long-distance traffic than it had been in at least ten years.
Only 65.2 percent of all ICE and IC trains arrived at their destination on time.
As the group reports, this is ten percentage points below the previous year's level (75.2 percent).
Deutsche Bahn introduces an innovation: the main cause of delays is eliminated
Delays, overcrowded trains or even complete train cancellations and route closures, such as in Dortmund, are a well-known annoyance, especially for commuters and travelers.
Deutsche Bahn now wants to put an end to this.
With an innovation, the company wants to tackle the main cause of delays.
Traveling should become noticeably more comfortable in the future.
Deutsche Bahn introduces something new for passengers: no more delays?
“Deutsche Bahn is introducing real-time occupancy displays on the first routes in regional transport.
Information on the occupancy of the wagons is determined and passed on directly to the passengers on the platform, on the vehicle and via app," the company said in an official press release.
But how and in what form is the data provided useful for commuters and travelers?
Will there soon be no more delays or overloaded trains?
The transport group also explains this, as RUHR24 reports.
Deutsche Bahn promises to reduce delays thanks to innovation
Customers should use the new ads to find a seat more quickly.
Railway operations should become more efficient.
In addition, trains should be able to depart more punctually in the future – delays will be reduced.

Specifically, this means for commuters and travelers in theory: “The occupancy display on the platform takes place in a three-stage traffic light logic or in person pictograms for the respective cars.
In this way, customers can see where they can position themselves in order to better find a carriage with free seats.” In practice, however, most customers still have to be patient.
Commuters and travelers have to be patient: Then comes the train innovation
The entire system has been completed and will gradually go live over the next few months, but the rail innovation will initially be tangible on “pilot routes of the Hamburg S-Bahn and in the Stuttgart S-Bahn network,” the group said.
In February, the start “is planned for regional traffic between Hamburg and Lübeck.
The S-Bahn in the Rhine-Main area will be added in April and parts of the Berlin S-Bahn from May.
By the end of 2024, more than 1,500 DB Regio wagons, a quarter of all DB trains in regional transport, will be able to display the occupancy rate across Germany,” says the official statement from Deutsche Bahn.
Deutsche Bahn names the main reason for delays: Innovation provides a remedy
Initially, patience will probably be required.
Nevertheless, Deutsche Bahn board member Dr.
Daniela Gerd tom Markotten: "With the intelligent occupancy display, we are making our passengers' everyday life noticeably better."
It will be interesting to see whether the innovation will bring about a noticeable improvement for commuters and travelers.
After all, according to the company, “delays when boarding and alighting are the main reason for exceeding stopping times and thus for delays”.
