Gymnast complaints: Maccarani remains coach but not manager, Tecchi 'my decision'

Technical director no, coach yes.

This is the decision taken by the president of Federginnastica, Gherardo Tecchi, on Emanuela Maccarani, investigated by sports and ordinary justice for alleged mistreatment and psychological abuse after the complaints that emerged from some former gymnasts.

The decision came after more than three hours of federal council, held at Coni in the presence of the captain of the Butterflies, Alessia Maurelli, and the president of the Italian national Olympic committee, Giovanni Malagò.

So Maccarani, for now, will remain in her position as coach of the national rhythmic gymnastics team, while her position as director will be taken on ad interim by president Tecchi.

"It is my decision after having also heard President Malagó and the council.

"I could also come in and say 'I decided this', but I wanted to listen to everyone because it's a delicate moment for the federation" explained Tecchi, who, becoming ad interim director, will therefore have to formalize the Maccarani's job as coach.

And the same will happen with her assistant Tishina (also under investigation with the same accusations), because both of their contracts have expired since December 31st.

In fact, the next council will approve the 2023 budgets for all disciplines, including rhythmic which will also contain Maccarani's coaching contract.

"For Emanuela it's a downsizing, but she will also allow her to defend herself better - adds Tecchi - than her. Her task is to bring the national team to the Olympics".

  Furthermore, the FGI hopes that at least the sports justice will have been pronounced by February 2, given that by January 24 Maccarani will be able to present counter-deductions to the referral notice and then await the decision of the Federal Court.

Of course, the days weren't easy for the Italian coach.

"Even the girls of the national team were particularly impressed - concludes the coach - But I defer to the decisions of the federal council given the respect I have for the institutions I work for.
