It's going to be stormy in Germany this weekend.

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of storms and heavy rain.

In some federal states, this means there is a risk of flooding.

New heavy precipitation is

expected for

North Rhine-Westphalia .

After the continuous rain of the past few days, smaller rivers had already flooded there and basements had filled up, so that the fire brigade and rescue services had to be deployed.

Now the levels could rise again.

"Due to the saturated soil, there will probably be a (re)increase in the waters in NRW tomorrow, in some cases significantly": especially in the catchment area of Sieg and Ruhr, according to a status report by the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection on Friday.

In the north of

Bavaria

, the rivers have also swollen significantly in the past few days.

According to the Bavarian flood news service, flood notification levels 1 and 2 were occasionally exceeded on the Upper Main.

And the water levels will probably continue to rise: According to the experts' forecast, further heavy precipitation is expected in the northern low mountain ranges by Sunday noon, especially in traffic jams.

The districts of Coburg, Kronach and Lichtenfels are particularly affected.

Individual built-up areas could also be flooded here.

According to information from the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, high water levels and slight flooding can also occur in northern Lower Franconia and Upper Franconia, for example in the Aschaffenburg area, in Bad Kissingen or around Bayreuth.

The situation in parts of

Hesse

is also tense .

On Saturday, some water levels in Eder, Fulda and Lahn continued to exceed the second of three reporting levels.

This emerges from an overview by the Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) in Wiesbaden.

This reporting level means that properties near the shore are flooded and isolated basements can fill up.

According to the forecast, the water levels should stabilize or drop over the weekend.

But it will continue to rain in Hesse - sometimes heavily, especially in the low mountain ranges.

In the Gießen district, the volunteer fire brigade rescued two drivers with their vehicles from a flooded street on Saturday.

According to the operations, the area in the community of Heuchelheim was closed, but the drivers of the cars drove in and then stopped.

The rescuers then approached with a Unimog and pulled the car out of the water.

There is also stormy weather with continuous rain and thunderstorms in

Rhineland-Palatinate

and

Saarland

at the start of the weekend.

An official flood warning applies to the Moselle, for example.

The people of

Saxony-Anhalt

have to be prepared for a windy Saturday .

Wind gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour have been occurring since late morning, and gusts of wind up to 80 kilometers per hour in the Harz Mountains.

Hurricane gusts of around 120 kilometers per hour are expected on the Brocken.

In the Harz region, continuous rain is also to be expected.

The wind in

Lower Saxony

is expected to get stronger on Sunday.

According to the DWD, there is a risk of storms on the North Sea coast due to hurricane-like gusts, while gusts of wind are expected inland.

The district fire brigade association Aurich warned walkers, drivers and homeowners: For example, garden furniture and garbage cans should be secured, windows and doors should remain closed.

You shouldn't go for a walk in the forest.

The levels of some rivers could rise because of the rain.

A detailed overview of the risk of flooding in individual federal states can be found here on the Flood Control Center website.
