An angler fished a bag of human body parts from the Ernst August Canal in Hamburg.
According to the police, the man in the Wilhelmsburg district at the height of the Buscher Weg/Vogelhüttendeich bridge first pulled a woman's slipper out of the water.
Bones are said to have been found inside.
The man then brought a bag of bones to the surface of the water.
According to the information, the angler had informed the police about the find around 11:00 a.m.
Divers are looking for more remains
»I was fishing, got stuck somewhere on the bottom and wanted to loosen the hanger.
There was a bag on it when I pulled it up.
And there something looked like a bone," the angler told the Hamburger Morgenpost.
Divers were still looking for more remains in the water, a police spokesman said.
During the operation, the police divers retrieved several filled bags from the canal.
According to a report by the NDR, forensic technicians secured traces.
It is still unclear whether it is the remains of one or more people and how long they have been in the water.
That should clarify the forensic medicine.
No further information was known as of the evening.
Homicide investigating.
