Le Figaro
continues its deployment.
The beginning of 2023 is placed under the sign of the regions where the newspaper's site is strengthening the presence of its editorial staff.
Lefigaro.fr has thus just established itself in the first four major cities - Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes and Nice - with the creation of two full-time journalist positions per city.
Their mission: to ensure better editorial coverage of local news, of which we know the growing interest among the French.
Under the responsibility of Alexis Brézet, editorial director of
Le Figaro
, this new service is headed by Marion Joseph, appointed regional editor-in-chief of the site last September.
A journalist at
Le Figaro
since 2009, she was successively news editor, editor-in-chief and deputy editor-in-chief, in charge of the news and miscellaneous section.
She will be supported from January 25 by Nicolas Cerbelle, currently assistant to the publishing department of
Le Figaro
.

This new team is responsible for covering a broad spectrum of local news, in politics (urban development, city projects, etc.), society (transport, daily life, schools, etc.), news items (security, etc.), economy (start -ups…) and culture (exhibitions, weekend outings…).
“Local news is at the heart of our readers' concerns.
It is therefore a strategic priority and an essential line of development for
Le Figaro
.
Our new teams will do their best to cover local news with the journalistic expertise and high standards that characterize the work of all our newsrooms
,” emphasizes Alexis Brézet.
30 new positions
Since taking office, Marion Joseph has formed the teams of the four offices with the pairs Jean Cittone and Marie-Hélène Hérouart in Bordeaux (lefigaro.fr/bordeaux), Justin Boche and Antoine Sillières in Lyon (lefigaro.fr/lyon), Julien Chaillou and Laurène Trillard in Nantes (lefigaro.fr/nantes), and Nicolas Daguin and Lucas Hélin in Nice (lefigaro.fr/nice).
"In connection with the social network team of
Le Figaro
, we have also set up four Facebook pages, one for each city, to relay the subjects covered each day by the journalists"
, specifies Marion Joseph.
This development strategy confirms the Figaro Group's desire to
"continue to grow the audience of Figaro.fr, the leading information site in France, with 21.6 million unique visitors in November according to data from the Médiamétrie institute. “
Recalls Bertrand Gié, director of the news division.
In 2022, the editorial staff of
Le Figaro
was strengthened by creating 30 new positions, bringing its workforce to more than 500 press cards.
These investments also consolidate the presence of the daily
Le Figaro
in the region.
The newspaper is already very present in the south-east of France.
And its weekend pack (with the supplements
Le Figaro Magazine
and
Madame Figaro
) already draws 60% of its paid circulation from the regions (compared to 40% in Île-de-France).
This averaged 376,000 copies each weekend.
