Plane with 72 people on board crashes in Nepal, national mourning tomorrow

The plane came from Kathmandu and crashed on landing between the old and new airport in Pokhara, central Nepal. Several foreigners among the passengers. Local authorities say the search for survivors is still ongoing. National mourning tomorrow (ANSA)


A

Yeti Airlines plane with 72 people on board crashed today in Nepal.

There were 68 passengers and four crew members on the aircraft.

At least 67 people have died, police said.

According to the media there are no survivors.

Local authorities say the search for survivors is still ongoing. 

The

aircraft, reports Nepal Live Today, crashed in Pokhara, in the Kaski district, about 200 km north-west of Kathmandu.

The causes of the accident are not known at the moment.

Several foreigners were on board the

plane, including five Indians, four Russians, one Irishman and two South Koreans, according to Indian newspaper The Economic Times.

There are currently no reports of Italians on board.

According to Asian media, the plane came from Kathmandu and crashed on landing in a built-up area between the old Pokhara airport and the city's recently inaugurated new international airport.

The aircraft caught fire.

The images of the disaster published by the Nepal Live Today website indeed show the disaster logo with several houses in the background.

Upon its impact on the ground, near the Seri River, the plane caught fire and other images and videos published by the Asian media show thick columns of smoke caused by parts of the aircraft on fire. 

The Nepalese government has declared tomorrow
