Today, the National Center for Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the Syrian Trust for Development, held a workshop on evaluating the application of social emotional learning in schools, its development mechanism, and the experiences of teachers and mentors in the field.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabaa, explained the importance of the workshop to present the results of applying emotional education in schools, and its role in enhancing the concept of learning and developing skills and personality and its relationship to the transformation in education, indicating that social emotional learning enhances and develops the teacher's relationship with his students, and contributes to the acquisition of skills to develop an integrated identity For students, promoting the management of their emotions and feeling and showing empathy for others, building supportive relationships and making responsible decisions.
Tabaa pointed out the role of this education in building a partnership between the school, the family and the community, to create educational environments and experiences that are characterized by trust and its contribution to improving the social relationship between students, developing the school environment and improving the behavior of teachers with high levels of social competence, to be able to protect themselves from exhaustion and develop and manage their relationships. with their students, indicating that the general framework for social affective learning includes five areas, namely, “self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.”
The Director of the National Center for the Development of Educational Curricula, Dr. Nadia Al-Ghazouli, indicated that the workshop discussed the reality of implementing the emotional education curricula, which lasted for two years, in the presence of experts from the College of Education. that have experience in this field.
The Director of the Center for Measurement and Evaluation, Dr. Ramadan Darwish, talked about the mechanism of evaluating and measuring social affective learning curricula, indicating that the extent to which students possess the five skills and competencies for social emotional learning is being evaluated, which contributes to providing students with favorable attitudes towards scientific material and society.
And from the Syrian Trust for Development, Salima Zaidan gave a presentation on the experience of the Syrian Trust in this field, the strategies and stages that were followed, the mechanism for communicating ideas, methods of dialogue, the development of purposeful games, and proper dealing with children.
