In the first few years of the corona pandemic, the emergency aid was actually intended to protect companies from ruin and secure jobs.

However, some people tried to profit from it.

The district court of Cologne has now sentenced a 59-year-old woman because she stole around 617,000 euros.

According to a spokeswoman, the judges considered it proven that the woman had committed 62 counts of subsidy fraud and 60 counts of fraud.

In some cases, document forgery also played a role.

In doing so, she obtained emergency aid and short-time work benefits for non-existent companies.

As the court spokeswoman announced, the 59-year-old should now go to prison for five years and three months.

The verdict was therefore already on Wednesday.
