(ANSA) - PESHAWAR, 16 JAN - A well-known Pakistani lawyer was killed in revenge by a colleague inside the court.

The story took place in Peshawar, according to the authorities.

According to an initial reconstruction, Abdul Latif Afridi, 79, former president of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and well known in circles, was chatting with colleagues in a room when a younger colleague approached and shot him six close-range pistol shots.

Both were still wearing their robes.

After the murder, the murderer gave himself up to the police.

"Don't shoot, I had an account with him and I took my revenge," said the young lawyer.

Afridi was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described him as "an expert jurist and a brave politician who was known for his righteousness".

Investigations revealed that the victim had been reported in the past on charges of being involved in the death of her killer's father.

Other details are not known.
