Wet wipes end up in the toilet for many.
But this type of disposal can become a problem - not only for the domestic toilet.
Whether for facial cleansing, cleaning or body care for babies: wet wipes can be found in almost every household.
However, these practical helpers often end up in the toilet instead of in the residual waste.
But can wet wipes even be disposed of in the toilet?
Or threatens to clog the toilet?

Wet wipes should not be down the toilet
Conventional toilet paper consists of cellulose and therefore quickly dissolves in the waste water.
The proportion of synthetic fibers in wet wipes, on the other hand, can become a real problem because these wipes have proven to be extremely durable.
"They can be flushed away in the toilet, but they get mixed up on the way through the sewage pumps - and in the worst case clog them," informs the magazine
GEO.de.
Due to the backwater in the drainpipes, the water can no longer drain away unhindered.
Then experts have to work - and that can be expensive.
Even if they make it to the sewage treatment plant, they have to be fished out and burned there, which is a laborious process.
Wet wipes therefore belong in the residual waste, like other hygiene items.

Can damp toilet paper be flushed down without hesitation?
Even damp toilet paper cannot easily be flushed down the toilet.
Manufacturers label them as "flushable" or "unflushable".
This is intended to show consumers whether toilet paper is allowed in the toilet or not.
But even with the flushable variant, experts disagree as to whether this is also true as the manufacturers claim.
A sewage master from a sewage treatment plant told
BR.de
: "These wet wipes come straight to us - so nothing dissolves." But that's not all: the wipes often get knotted with hair and other hygiene items and clog up the pump systems.
If the sewage treatment plant has to be cleaned by hand or if faults have to be rectified, this is very expensive, which in turn leads to increasing sewage fees.
Ultimately, the consumer pays the price that the wipes cause.
Therefore, to be on the safe side, moist toilet paper that can be flushed should also end up in the residual waste.

Food and other substances also do not belong in the toilet, for example because they lead to blockages or pollute the environment.
Once the toilet is clogged, home remedies can help the water drain away.
