Today, Minister of Health Aryeh Deri will be presented with a list of dozens of medicines and technologies that will be given to patients as part of the new health basket.

The list will be submitted for approval by the government, and the drugs will be given to the patients in about three weeks.

200 medicines costing about 2.5 billion shekels arrived at the final hearing of the health basket committee, with the committee having a budget of 650 million shekels - the highest ever.

The final discussions of the committee in the last two days were difficult and tense, during which many important and effective medicines were left out of the basket, which will not be given to the patients this year because, despite the increase in the budget, it is not possible to put all the medicines that the patients in Israel need into the basket.

Among the drugs that advanced to the final stage are drugs for breast cancer patients and lung, prostate and skin cancer patients;

Vaccines against shingles for adults and against the virulent meningococcal bacterium for children;

Financing eyeglasses for children;

drugs for hematological diseases, myeloma and leukemia;

genetic tests, and more.

"Don't spare us"

One of the patients awaiting the committee's decision is Avi Itkin (34), who has been dealing with Crohn's, an inflammatory bowel disease, for 12 years.

"I suffer from a complex and severe disease that causes excruciating pain throughout my body, diarrhea, bleeding, lack of appetite, weight loss, fatigue and weakness. The disease greatly affected my functioning, and because of this I was unable to lead a normal routine life. I could not eat, leave the house, work, I was unable to sleep. Dozens of runs to the bathroom day and night, and a poor mental state due to the fear of becoming a nursing person, which is a burden on the health care system.

"There are other patients like me."

"I tried all the medications that are currently available in the basket for the disease, but my health did not improve. I recently started receiving a medication called 'Rinbok', which this year is submitted to the medication basket for patients with inflammatory bowel disease. The medication improved my quality of life, and I finally turned from an almost nursing person to a person that functions independently, in all areas, my life has changed.

"Inflammatory bowel diseases are still transparent diseases, and there is not enough understanding of the difficulties and challenges of the patients with them. Most of us are young with the whole future ahead of them, and since the treatment options are limited - it is important to make all treatments accessible and included in the basket. Like me, there are other patients who suffer from the disease after exhausting all treatment options The differences that exist in the medicine basket, so I call on the health basket committee: don't skimp on us."
